The Next Generation of Cooling Refrigerants. A refrigerant is a liquid that is stored in your AC coils, which help cool and dehumidify the indoor air. If we didn’t have refrigerants, we wouldn’t have air conditioning. Over the years, the most common AC refrigerant was R-22 (Freon), but in 2012 the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) mandated the phase-out of R-22 through the Clean Air Act. By 2020, it will no longer be legal to produce R-22 as a result of its destructive impact to the environment. Introducing R-410A To decrease environmental impacts, all Lennox® products are now engineered to work with the new R-410A AC refrigerant. R-410A is EPA-recognized and contains no chlorine, so it’s ozone-friendly. You can feel good about using this refrigerant in Beaverton because it’ll help make your cooling system work efficiently, reliably and quietly, and deliver the same cool comfort in the warmer months. Additional Considerations If your AC or heat pump was manufactured before 2010, it may not be R-410A-compatible. You may want to investigate upgrading your cooling system before R-22 is ultimately phased out. The old refrigerant will become scarce in the next few years, costing you more to run your system effectively. The Lennox products we offer at Garoken Energy Co. Inc. work with R-410A, so you can rest assured we have an AC or heat pump more suited to your needs. Additionally, steer clear of”alternate refrigerants that claim to work in R-22 systems. These include R-407C, R-438A and R-422, all of which can actually compromise your system’s performance. Garoken Energy Co.
